Backporch Vineyard broke ground in 2019, it took 30 days to finish the exterior of the barn. The interior is finished in red oak donated from Mr. Freeman’s property, the namesake for Freeman’s Red Oak wine. The Gumps consider Mr. Freeman an “integral part of the winery” as he continues to help wherever needed. They consider themselves blessed to have him as part of the Backporch family. The grand opening was in September 2020.
What started out as a conversation between neighbors is now a reality. In less than 3 years, Backporch has grown into a wonderful part of the community. The nominations noted that their desire to bring the community together with their events from fundraising, family events, and supporting local businesses with vendor events, etc., made them an excellent candidates. The owner’s friendliness to welcome everyone that visits their establishment feel welcome no matter if it is their first time or 50th time. Their recent “Music in the Vines” was a success, and look forward to the next one.
